(a) There is a common saying ‘Health is Wealth.’ Justify this by giving two reasons stating the importance of good health.      (See Lesson 7)

Ans: It is a universal truth that ‘Health is wealth’ and there are many reasons which are supporting this statement. Two importance of good health is given below:

1. Now a day, every family incurs huge medical cost due to chronic diseases. Good health helps in reducing chronic diseases and illness which helps in reducing medical cost.

2. Good health allows us to live a peaceful and quality life. We can work actively and achieve our goals and aspirations.

(b) Do you think social health an important dimension of good health? State the characteristics which reflect good social health.      (See Lesson 7)

(a) Critically examine your home and identify two potential zones where accidents can occur.  (See Lesson 13)

(b) Accident of clothes catching fire while cooking is frequent. State any two appropriate ways by which such accidents can be avoided.        (See Lesson 13)

Ans: Accidents of clothes catching fire while cooking is frequent mainly because of loose clothes of women and unmanaged kitchen. This can have avoided by:

1. In kitchen, woman must wear tight-fitting clothes during cooking. Loose clothes can easily come into contact with flame which can cause fire.

2. Keep your kitchen clean and organised. An unorganised and dirty kitchen can easily cause accidental fire.

3. Answer any one of the following questions in about 40-60 words.        2

(a) Baby Ratna is 8 months old, state one activity during this stage which is due to maturation, and one activity which can be due to learning.       (See Lesson 18)

Ans: If something is inherited, it was passed on from a parent to an offspring. A trait is an internal or external characteristic. So, inherited traits are characteristics that are passed from parent to offspring during reproduction.

Two Inherited Characteristics:

– Colour of eyes similar to parents.

– Skin complexion similar to parents.

Environmental traits are influenced by your environment. You can learn them or control them. Two Attributes we learnt from the environment:

– Since my father is a musician, music is my favourite subject.

– Being an Indian, I can speak Hindi very well.

4. Answer any one of the following questions in about 100-150 words.          4

(a) Fibres can be identified by look, and feel. Make a list of the appearance, touch, and care required to maintain the following fibers:

(i) Cotton.

(ii) Wool.

(iii) Silk.

(b) What is weaving? Write the two characteristics of weaves. How is weaving different from knitting?      (See lesson 10)

Ans: Weaving is the interlacing of two sets of yarn which inter-lace at right angles to each other. The length-wise threads are known as warps, individually they are called ends. The cross-wise threads are known as filling or weft; individually they are known as picks.

Characteristics of Weaves:

1. Fabrics are more dimensional stable due to tighter construction and intersecting of warp and weft in right angle.

2. Woven fabrics are more inclined to crease. So ironing and iron retention are better knitted fabric.

Difference between weaving and knitting:

1. Weaving is done on light fabric while Knitting is done on a woolen clothes.

2. Weaving clothes are less stretchable but knitted clothes are elastic and stretchable.

3. Weaving clothes are thin while knitted clothes are thick.

5. Answer any one of the following questions in about 100-150 words.         4

(a) How are Human Resources different from Non-Human Resources? List two Human and Non-Human resources that you possess. Give two tips to your friend on how to use resources efficiently? (See Lesson-14)

Ans: Human resources refers to the people working in the organisation. They need education, training and other facilities to develop.

Non-Human Resources are time, money, properties, goods, services and community facilities. They do not need education, training and other facilities.

Human Resources possessed by me: knowledge and skill.

Non-human resources possessed by me: Bike and computer.

Tips to Use resources efficiently.

1. Human Resources:

– One should always keep himself up to date and try to learn new thing in his field every day.

– Try to improve your skill by learning various skill development course.

2. Non-Human Resources:

– Do regular servicing of your vehicles such as bike and car. Even cycle need regular servicing. This can increase life of the assets.

– Keep your personal computer and laptop up to date.  Keep them dust free to increase its life.

(b) You have to plan a trip to a hill station for the family. Using the four steps of management, list the actions you will take.      (See Lesson-14)

6. Answer any one of the following questions in detail.          6

(a) Explain the importance of food in your life, by answering the following questions:

(i) Any two functions of food that are important to sustain life, and characteristics of any two macro nutrients which are essential for our body.

(ii) Make one-day diet plan for yourself using five food groups meals a day.   (See Lesson 2 & 3)

Ans: Important functions of food:

a) Food provide us energy to work, move and keep us stay alive. Energy protect us from various diseases.

b) Food build new cells and tissues for growth of our body. Without proper food, our body and mind cannot be grown properly.

Macro nutrients which are essential for our body are:

a) Carbohydrates.

b) Fats.

c) Protein.

Characteristics of Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates represent a broad group of substances which include the sugars, starches, gums and celluloses. The common attributes of carbohydrates are that they contain only the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Characteristics of fats: Fats can make a food more pleasant by enhancing its texture and mouth feel, its appearance, and by carrying fat-soluble flavours. Fats also have physical characteristics that are important in food manufacturing and cooking.

Characteristics of proteins:

– proteins are the most abundant substances in nearly all cells.

– all proteins contain the elements: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sometimes sulphur.

one-day diet plan using five food groups meals a day:

Breakfast Diet plan:

– Poha with gud.

– Paratha with mix veg.

– Milk.

Lunch diet plan:

– Dal and Rice with mixed vegetable curry.

– Chicken or mutton or Fish Curry.

– Lemon Juice.

Snack diet plan in the evening:

– Fried poha with Black tea.

– Homemade cookies.

Dinner Diet plan:

– Vegetable salad.

– One Chapatti with milk.

– Homemade juice of vegetables.

(b) Observe a child of 0 to 5 years,

(i) Describe detail the influence of any four factors which you felt were very important for the physical development of the child.
