Broadcaster’s role in community radio is to present relevant topics, news, and current affairs that people want to hear about. They can choose topics that are important to them or related to their culture.

Savings and investment is my favourite topic. The following is the topic for broadcast on community radio:

Saving money for the future is a major concern that many people have. Although it can be difficult, it is important to look at your current financial situation and plan for the future. If you want to save up some cash, budgeting is a crucial component of that process. There are various alternatives to save money. Some are risk free such as Post office, Insurance and bank FD and some are high risk option such as Equity and Mutual funds.

a) Write news in Hindi/English or in any regional language related to the effects of pollution for an online news portal.      (See Lesson-21)

Ans: There are various types of pollution such as water, air, soil pollution etc. which are creating serious problems for our environment.

Effects of Soil Pollution

a) Industrial wastes consist of a variety of chemicals which are extremely toxic. Chemical like acids, alkalis, pesticides, heavy metals etc. affect soil fertility and ultimately affect human health.

b) Nitrogen and phosphorus from the fertilizers in soil reach nearby water bodies with agricultural run-off and cause eutrophication.

Effects of Water Pollution

a) Drinking contaminated water causes health problems like cancer, reproductive problems, typhoid fever, stomach sickness and skin rashes in humans.

b) Excess fluoride in water causes defects in teeth and bones called fluorosis, while arsenic can cause significant damage to the liver and nervous system.

Effects of Air Pollution

1. Air pollution affects our respiratory system and causes breathing difficulties.

2. Diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, lung cancer, tuberculosis and pneumonia caused due to air pollution.
