(a) ‘Human plays significant role in weathering.’ Give any two reasons in support of your view.    (See Lesson-2)

Ans: Weathering refers to the deterioration of soils, erosion, water and air pollution. Human plays significant role in weathering because:

1. Humans cause increases in acid precipitation and pollution, which increase the quantity of weathering agents

2. Removing trees and plants, plowing fields, and overgrazing by livestock disrupts roots that stabilize sediment and soil.

(b) Identify any two types of landforms found in your area. Write any one point for formation of each landform.      (See Lesson-7)

(a) What will happen on the Earth’s surface in the absence of water vapour?’ Give any two points. (See Lesson-9)

Ans: Impact on earth in the absence of water vapour:

1. Without water vapor, the Earth’s surface would be much colder, as the greenhouse effect would be significantly reduced.

2. In the absence of water vapor, Earth would become uninhabitable because of lack of rain.

(b) If Isobars are closely found in your area, then what kind of climatic conditions would you feel, and why?      (See Lesson-11)

(a) ‘There is a general reducing pattern found in the regional distribution of precipitation from equator to pole.’ Justify the statement by giving any two points.               (See Lesson-12)

Ans: In general, as we proceed from the equator towards the poles, rainfall goes on decreasing steadily. The coastal areas of the world receive greater amounts of rainfall than the interior of the continents. The rainfall is more over the oceans than on the landmasses of the world because of being great sources of water.

The main reason for this reducing pattern is the rays of the sun fall slant in polar regions and falls straight on the Equatorial region.

(b) Prepare a food web on the basis of the organism available in your house. How are you connected to this food web?      (See Lesson-14)

Ans: Conditions for fisheries in India are very favourable especially in North-Eastern reason. The main reasons for the this are:

1. As India has the longest sea boundary which increase the area for fisheries and also explore export opportunity.

2. There is a lack of job opportunity in our country so people who live in coastal areas prefer to gain money by fishing. Fisheries are now a day’s good source of earning in coastal areas and north-eastern region.

3. Population of India is growing rapidly and there is a tremendous jump in the demand of fishes as fishes are great source of proteins.

4. From the very beginning, Indians are doing fishing and they are expert in this field. There are large number of trained professional in the field of fishing which provides a strong foundation for the growth and development of fishing industries.

5. Answer any one of the following questions in about 100 -150 words.        4

(a) Identify that what kind of building materials are used for walls, and roofs in your area.   (See Lesson-29)

Ans: Building material is any material used for construction purpose such as materials for house building. Wood, Concrete, cement, aggregates, metals, bricks, blocks, concrete, clay are the most common type of building material used in construction in my locality. 

1. Wood: Wood is a product of trees, and sometimes other fibrous plants, used for construction purposes when cut or pressed into lumber and timber, such as boards, planks and similar materials. 

2. Concrete:Concrete is the most important and widely used building material. It is made of cement, fine and coarse aggregates, and water of suitable proportions.

3. Cement:Cement is a binding agent for construction materials. Cement is produced by burning at high temperatures in a definite mixture of calcareous, siliceous, and aluminous raw materials and crushing the resulting clinkers to a fine powder.

4. Brick and Block: A brick is a block made of kiln-fired material, usually clay or shale, but also may be of lower quality mud, etc.

(b) ‘Need based utilisation of local resources is economically sustainable.’ Justify the statement with suitable examples.      (See Lesson-30A)
