Home Science can take a prominent role in developing good individuality and a good sense of personality in a person. The modern concept of this subject is to bring up homes where peace, prosperity and progress prevail. Unlike other subjects, it is a practical science one applies in everyday life. As a practical subject it offers maximum opportunity to express one’s ability to take up things and develop leadership qualities.
(b) On the basis of your experiences of living in a family, list any four functions of a family which have benefited you in life. (See Lesson-3)

(a) Justify with the help of examples the statement that “Resources are means for satisfying our needs, and reaching goals.” List two individual resources, and two-family resources that will help you to reach your goals. (See Lesson-10)
Ans: Resources are the means for satisfying our needs and reaching our goals. There are mainly two types of resources: Individual resources and family resources.
The resources possessed and utilized by a person are called individual resources. Such resources are part of an individual and can be used only by that person. Examples of human resources are time, energy, knowledge, skills and abilities.The amount of individual resources available will vary from one person to another. Therefore, they can be acquired and cultivated.
At the same time, there are some other resources which are available for everyone in family to use. They are more easily recognized than individual resources. Some of these resources like personal computer, bank balance, personal land etc. are available for all the family members. Family resources are external to individuals, but they can be possessed and utilized by them.
(b) Define time management; make a time plan for yourself for a whole day. How will it help you to conserve your energy? (See Lesson-11)
